Important themes & SYMBOLS
Lucy Christopher is showing her creative skills in a creative way by making this story believable and showing us a different writing style as she writes in and out of Gemmas thoughts as she faces her horrors of being kidnapped and being held captive in Australia. So by the author creating and writing this i think i can speak for all of this when it opened a new fear. But moving on to the themes of this book is having unknowing freedom a huge part of the book is about examining what it means to be in captivity, as well as what it means to be free. While Gemma originally feels confined and isolated in Ty's homestead in the empty desert, her experiences with him changes the meaning of the words captivity and isolation. During the story she starts to think to herself "Is the desert really a prison?" she has been held in captivity her whole life without even knowing it. It's one of the paradoxes for the book Stolen Ty may hold Gemma captive, but he might also be the person who sets her free.
